The Steady Anchor

Weekly Devotional 🙏🏼

God Alone - Part 3 of 5

"The Steady Anchor"

When I was in my 20s, I saw actor Denzel Washington perform on Broadway in New York City.

His performance was mesmerizing.

What I didn’t know was that Denzel had survived a near-fatal car accident in his 20s, walking away without serious injury. He felt that God’s hand was on his life, keeping him safe and guiding him toward his purpose.

Reflecting on his journey, he once shared, “If you don’t have a spiritual anchor, you’ll be easily blown by the wind.” His reliance on God’s steadying presence has been his guide through challenges, keeping him centered and resilient.

Denzel’s story illustrates the power of a firm anchor—God’s unshakable hand holding us steady, no matter what winds come our way. An anchor holds fast in turbulent waters, keeping a ship steady amidst the waves.

God promises in Isaiah 43, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.” He’s the anchor that holds strong against any storm you face.

In Romans, Paul’s confidence is bold: “If God is for us, who can be against us?” God doesn’t just save; He secures, providing stability in the fiercest trials. Imagine Him as your anchor today, holding you firm, unyielding against every wave.

I know what it is to drift in life. I’ve found myself in harbors of deep, dark waters, asking, “How did I ever end up here?” and, “How can I get home?”

Sometimes I end up in dangerous harbors because of my own poor decisions. Other times, I find myself in treacherous storms due to forces beyond my control.

Either way, I know what it feels like to need an anchor in challenging times. Like an anchor in the storm, God holds firm and won’t let you drift.

Could God be at work right now—protecting, guiding, and intervening in your life?
